Chill Swims - Our Winter Timetable

Chill Swims - Our Winter Timetable
Introducing Chill Swims - Our first ever Autumn into Winter Timetable
From Monday 5th October our heating system and boilers are off and our water is getting colder. There are plenty of health benefits to swimming in cold water, but also a great amount of safety advice.
Our Facebook page has tips and cold water swimming kit advice or go to:
https://www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com/how-to-acclimatise-to-cold-water/
The water temperature will be clearly displayed each day.
If you are inexperienced at cold water swimming then as the water gets colder so will you, so spend less time in the pool until you acclimatise. A useful guide is to be in the pool for 1-2 minutes per degree, so 15oC = a 15-30 minute swim.
The water will feel cold at first – so take a moment to get used to it, then start swimming. It’s best to keep swimming and not take too many breaks – when you start to feel cold it’s time to get out. Hot showers aren’t a good idea and it will be cold showers only for rinsing when the pool temperature drops below 15oC.
The best way to warm up is to put on plenty of warm layers, plus a hat, thick socks, warm shoes and gloves – and bring a flask of hot drink.
Hot drinks are available on Saturday morning sessions only or as otherwise advertised, £2 each. Exact money only please into our donation bucket, and no change given. We are unable to take card payments.
